EXCITING TIMES IN PERAK

Malaysia does not only have the tallest twin towers, the longest ketupat ( or is it the thickest ), roti canai with the biggest diameter, the longest teh tarik ( whatever that means !), we also have the longest election campaign in the world.

March 8 has come and gone but our politicians appear to be still on the campaign trail. Just look at Perak!

But unlike others, I am not complaining. After 2 decades of a corrupt and decadent Mahathir era, we are finally in the midst of some exciting times.

For instance,reading the newspapers is fun once again ...... no matter the spin attached to a particular story by the mainstream and BN-controlled media. Its fun because politics in Malaysia are no longer as predictable as it used to be.

Just read todays Star! The Minister Azalina said she had burger with officers of the MACC when they were recording her statement. After that, the much-heralded officers of the MACC had sought her permission, yes, they had sought her permission before going to inspect her house! Now isnt that nice? Now not only UMNO, but MACC also, it would appear, is giving fodder to the public to vote the opposition!

Look at Perak again:

2 Menteri Besars.... isnt that exciting? Where in the world would you have such a remarkable political situation!

MB Nizar... what an exciting and cool cat he has turned out to be. Isnt it exciting that he is the face of modern day PAS?

And the Speaker Sivakumar... step aside Russell Crowe and make way for the Perak Gladiator!
For over 50 years the BN was singing " The Speakers Decision Is Final! The Speakers Decision Is Final". Suddenly, out of the blue, the Perak Gladiator has not only made the mighty BN sing a different song but he has also changed the tune altogether! Now if that is not exciting I dont know what else is!!

Democracy under a tree? God tell me! Isnt this exciting! Never in their wildest dream would the BN govt have dreamt of the tenacity and dour determination of the PR govt. And the best response from BN? Issue a summons and remove the plaque under the Tree of Democracy! Isnt it apparent that after 50 years, the BN has still a lot of growing up to do?

Lets have a look at the BN's response in general:

They appoint an MB in haste but I am told that the Indians in Perak are not complaining. Why? Because they are claiming that they are all related to MB Zambry by colour at least. Now isnt that exciting?

They appoint a hotshot lawyer who goes to Court and states rather emphatically that Speaker Sivakumar is a Public Servant. Hellooooooo! In that case, are you saying that Mr Sivakumar is still the legitimate Speaker and by implication, the PR govt is the legitimate govt? Goodness Gracious! With lawyers of this calibre, why should Mr Sivakumar even bother engaging one!!!! Isnt this exciting!

The State Legal Adviser ( The No 1 BN Hotshot Legal Eagle of Perak) claims he is representing MB Zambry! Then he submits that the Speaker cannot engage a lawyer of his choice to represent himself and goes on to say that he can only be reperesented by the State Legal Adviser. Even a layman can see how idiotic he sounds! How can the State Legal Adviser represent two adversaries in Court at the same time over the same matter? No wonder one of the Judges of the Court of Appeal commented " You Nak Lari Sini, Lari Sana Macam mana?"

Now we also understand that the BN in general and UMNO in particular have become the Ultimate Guardian Of the Royalty. That is fine except for a few disturbing facts:

a. who orchestrated that removal of the immunity against the Royals in the first place;

b.who deliberately played up in the media about a certain Royalty being involved in the smuggling of cars by refusing to pay the custom duties?

c. who had a banner in Trengganu recently that read "Raja Natang"

Talk about hypocites!

As you can see, we are living in exciting times and mind you, I havent even touched on :

i. the missing Indian private investigator;

ii. the "sekejap ada, sekejap taada" victim of sodomy;

iii. the Burmese doctor who seem to have diasappeared;

iv. Atlantuya and the latest write-up in a French newspaper;

v. the disappearance of the individual who distributed intimate pics of ELI Wong.... and the list goes on.

So, let me reiterate again that I am not complaining about the rather fluid political situation in the country. In fact that is how it should be... fluid lest our polticians become too complacent for their own good!
